Not one of these things was on Orwell's list. Read the book or even watch the movie! |
1. The alteration of history to suit the narrative of the party. (See University history departments)
2. The redefining of speech (political correctness) to suit the agenda of the party.
4. The criminalization of heterosexuality.
5. The destruction of the family as the primary societal unit.
6. The attempt to mass engineer the gene pool by eliminating births among certain undesirable groups.
7. The enslavement of the proletariat to the elites of the party. In other words, treating most people as a homogeneous "mass" instead of individuals.
8. Phony wars on straw man targets to keep the proletariat afraid and supporting the party. For example, fighting against the war on women, the war on drugs and the supposed war on LGBTQ et a. Then there's the war they are waging against Conservatives, Christians and Republicans who are portrayed in the same way Big Brother portrayed East Asians, Eur-Asians and the followers of the imaginary "Goldman". (Note the anti-Semitism, a strong feature of leftist thought these days.)
9. Big brother style surveillance - everywhere you go some camera is following you. You are forced to use public transportation so you can be tracked with your transit pass. You voluntarily participate in an electronic data collection system in which you provide all your personal information to digital databases that the party can access.
10. Encouragement of expressions of public hatred for party-selected public enemies and publicly sanctioned fear-based outrage toward enemies of the collectivist state. Exercising acceptable forms of hate through protests, suppression of conservative voices and banning of free speech by certain groups and individuals.
11. Suppression of wealth-generating activities. Wealthy, comfortable, independent people think unacceptable thoughts and say unacceptable things that are often critical of the state. Successful people give the masses the dangerous idea that they too might rise above their station through hard work and diligence.
12. Mass roundups and elimination of undesirable elements from the proletariat through state-sponsored law enforcement and government domestic military forces. See the harassment and sometimes prosecution of filmmakers, commentators and writers such as D'nesh D'Souza, and conservative groups by judges and federal agencies like the FBI and the IRS.
Orwell wasn't talking about Republicans. He wasn't talking about Christians. He wasn't talking about conservatives, doctors or pharmacists. He was talking about socialism in all its ultimately virulent political forms. And every one of those ideas, I've heard in conversation with my "progressive" friends. And they were serious. These are powers they wish to give to the government so long as it is a "progressive" and socialist government. These are tactics they advocate as a path to the human-created utopia.
It's like they long for the days of the rack and pinion, terrorist knights in armor, the guillotine, and the divine right of kings and nobles. Sounds more regressive than progressive to me.

Very true.
I woke up this morning with Free Speech on my mind.
Then I read your article.
I recently started reading "1984" for the first time. I am now understanding so much (even not having gone far into the book) what I've been hearing so much with in regards to this book - and our society.
Hmm,
Well I was lucky enough to attend a live act of Animal Farm which it turned out was extremely timely. I came away saddened at how parallels I was able to draw against that and the effects of neoliberalism on the current Australian society.
A society today which as a result of its main focus shifting from the we to the me has resulted in a less egalitarian, easy going cohesive society.
Even here in the country where I live division is on display and sadly the people have clearly become increasingly aggressive and hostile toward those with a different political outlook.
Neoliberalism is easily as bad as communism and I dearly pray that here in Oz we finally give it the arse as a serious option. Our society couldn't take another couple decades of this rich first and last shit without going completely to the pack.
For the record and before I sign off, communism under Stalin wasn't actually communism but a totalitarian dictatorship. Stalin was to the right of the party and destroyed any real chance of seeing what Marxism could possibly have achieve if anything.
It is actually laughable that intelligent people believe that what those poor bastards went through was anything like Marxism. And no kneejerker's I am not a communist but someone who loved the fair society he once lived in before Von Hayek's vial model did it's damage.
Clearly the sooner Oz and other increasingly caustic societies like ours adopt the Nordic Model the sooner the World will be a better place for all to live in.
You're trying to twist Orwell's concerns to suit your own personal conservative bias. Phoo on you for doing this.
Also, the "imaginary enemy" in 1984 was named Goldstein, not Goldman.
A trivial detail, but it indicates how much you are really missing the point of Orwell and his predictions.
And your accusing the Left of being antisemitic is some kind of hilarious irony. When conservatives like yourself have for many decades been skewering Jews for being too much on the Left. Read about Joe McCarthy and the Hollywood blacklist of the 1950s.
In fact, it's STILL conservatives like yourself who constantly go around grumbling about how they hate Hollywood for its allegedly Leftist Jewish influences. You don't even have to read about Joe McCarthy, take a good honest look at Mel Gibson.
And most glaring omission of all, in your item #8. you mention every imaginary war, except the REAL one which Orwell was so eerily accurate in predicting, the endless war in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The fictional Public Enemy #1 which Orwell so precisely pinpointed in his Goldstein character, was in the actuality of events to come a half century after Orwell's death, the elusive fictional boogeyman character of Osama Bin Laden.
You have failed to comprehend George Orwell's predictions and his concerns. You simply don't get it, and I doubt that you ever will. You're the sort of monotonous typical conservative who has to turn every single discussion into an argument about abortion, no matter how utterly irrelevant abortion is to the topic. Because you don't care about relevance, you only care about grinding your one-track minded axes.
Corporate oligarchy here are the Republicans, so can cut all the crap that George Orwell would support your wicked fascism.
Goober and Anonymous above are the agents of the Democrat Socialist/Democrat Communist Party USA. The points in this article describe the exact things the left is doing. The insane LGBT...(what ever), the war on Christianity/Christmas (I am atheist but support good Christians of who I know many), the war on Heterosexual Family's etc. are all designed to destroy the culture, meaning in the end to destroy the country. Remember their strategy...... Destroy the Culture Destry the Country.
It's interesting that leftists believe that "because I say so" is a valid proof for whatever they are saying. Juvenile thinking goes, "You! Oh, yeah," and thinks it's a solid argument. Notice there wasn't any factual information in the arguments, just you don't understand and you're stupid - that sort of brilliant reasoning is why we doing double digit inflation, a gutted military, a kiss everyone's buttocks foreign policy, restrictions on speech, religion, attempts to disarm everyone, and attempts to create a database of anyone who disagrees with the progressive agenda - labeling them white supremacist domestic terrorists. I've seen this being done under cover of creating vaccine passports. I've been there in the middle of it and seen what they are up to. It definitely IS Orwell's nightmare and he was a leftist. It's just that he woke up and smelled the coffee. That's where the books came from. Calling someone a conservative doesn't make them stupider than you if you're a progressive. It's the lazy man's way to moral superiority.
